Grass when friendship turns sour... -ivory '98 |
"I wrote this for a class essay in which our story had to revolve around the theme 'Grass'. Writing this piece wasn't easy; it took me some time to really sort my thoughts out before fully immersing my thoughts and soul into this piece. This piece is close to heart, and rings a truth, and I guess I've learnt quite alot from that experience. And I hope that in writing this piece, others wouldn't choose to do what I did, and suffer the same consequences." |
Andrew Moots : Daydreamer a new "virtual" reality... -ebony '98 |
"This piece was my first piece to try to emulate the style of a famous writer. In this case, I was trying to base this story on James Thurbers 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.' The most important thing I tried to do was to seamlessly weave reality and fantasy into one continuous plot, just as Thurber did. However, some of my friends were barely able to distinguish the two, or so they said, even when I used the repetitive sound device to 'punctuate' each realm and the transition between them." |
The Way She Taught Me To jealousy kills. -ivory '98 |
"In preparing for 1998's Creative Arts Program Portfolio, I wrote this piece as one of my submissions. It tells of two good friends, one of which killed by the other because of jealousy. In this essay, I hope to be able to put across the message -- that we shouldn't act rashly in a fit of anger, because the consequences are disastrous. I've had done so before, and deeply hurt I was...perhaps that's the main reason for the theme of this piece." |
She a soppy romance? -ebony '98 |
"This piece is probably one of the better stories I have written. It is not a remake of 'Titanic' despite the seemingly soppy romance going on onboard a ship. In fact, it becomes the setting for a grisly, but rather anticlimactic, murder, from what I gathered from the people who read it. It seems I left too many hints along the way, but that only goes to show I'm not very good at writing mysteries...there would be too many loopholes in the plot to make it unpredictable." |
Dear Siong it goes far more than just aging... -ivory '98 |
"Imagine the horrors of being old. To lose your beauty, perhaps, to lose your senses, your memories of happier times, and most importantly -- your children. Many a time have we seen articles in the newspaper about children abandoning their parents and refusing to pay for their hospital bills and living expenses, and this is just an example." |
